flux residue . To make the solder turn dark and old appearing, brush the exposed leaded seams with antiquing solution. Special solutions are available at stained glass supply and hobby stores. Prepared antiquing solutions are available in black, copper, gray and other colors. Antiquing with copper sulfate crystals One easy way to make a nice coppery antique finish is to grind copper sulfate crystals to a fine powder (use a mortar and pestle), apply with small flux dampened cloth and rub to desired color. Wash lamp shade with soap and water, rinse well and pat dry. Or clean and polish with glass cleaning compound. The lamp is now ready to be placed on a base or swagged. |
