An extension of purely geometric shades, the Spider & Web shade has irregularities which are carefully designed to convey the idea of a spider in his web. Unlike other geometric shades the lower border of each panel is not strait but curves to such an extent that the panel measures 1/2" long at it middle than at this side. A friendly garden variety spider could be depicted using vaying shades of green glass at the top fading into golden-orange midway down the shade. Mottled glass will create the illusion of the sun glittering through gossamer threads of the web. This shade is a composite reproduction of an original Tiffany lamp shade as featured in "Lamps of Tiffany" by Egon Neustadt. Antique Tiffany style lamps were constructed of dense opalsecent stained glass that masks the light source and shows color by reflected light when the light is turned off. The Cast Brass Spider Legs that come with this pattern packet are first tinned, then soldered in place over the finished lamp. We recommend the use of our 3" cast brass heat cap to represent the body of the spider (sold separately). The preparation and use of cast brass caps and filigree is detailed in the Stained Glass Crafting booklet.
